Welcome to our previous pHin users! There are a few things that we wanted to explain to help you get the most from your Sutro membership.
The first thing is to understand how Sutro differs from pHin with regard to the testing method.
Technology:
ORP vs liquid reagent testing- Sutro is the only automated test solution in the market that uses real liquid drop tests. pHin (and some others) use ORP which isn't a true measurement of the actual ppm (parts per million) concentration of pH, alkalinity, and free chlorine. It's important to understand that you weren't getting actual concentration measurements, you were getting extrapolation of them by measuring the sanitizer's potential for chlorine and the pH was tested by a probe that needed calibration. Sutro automatically calibrates and uses lab-grade testing reagents in order to maintain accuracy.
Connectivity - Sutro uses a proprietary communication protocol between our hub and the monitor that penetrates brick walls and doesn't require a continuous line of sight like other monitors do.
Next, it's important to have your pool balanced prior to using Sutro to avoid yo-yo effects with chemical recommendations. This is really something that needs to be done before using any automated testing solution.
Also, note that as long as you're within range your ok, so don't try to micromanage your chemistry. Use Sutro's graphing and history to let your water tell you what it needs.
Thank you for being part of our Sutro family, we are here for you. If you need help, please reach out to us and we will be happy to assist with any questions you may have. We want you to have a successful transition and more importantly, we want you to love your pool (or spa) again.
